I was born in Peebles, brought up in Innerleithen and now live in Hawick in the Scottish Borders. I spent two years in the WASPS studio in Selkirk where I benefited from help, advice and encouragement from well-established artists like Mary Morrison, Rob Hain, Alan Richmond and others.
I have worked along with my wife as a missionary in Northern Pakistan and in North Sumatra, Indonesia. Although I had studied art at school and did a part-time painting and drawing course in Stockton-on-Tees, I only started painting in earnest while I was abroad, inspired by memories of home.
I have a passion for the scenery of Scotland, especially the Borders. I like walking in the hills, exploring old ruined tower houses and abandoned shepherd s cottages. In my paintings I try to capture the atmosphere, memories, and romance of this area which is rich in history and beautiful scenery.
