An imaginary location with an occupied Tower House. Fortified houses of this type, many ruins of which can still be found all over the Borders, were
built for protection against marauding bands of Border Reivers. These bandits would raid their neighbours on both sides of the border, stealing livestock and anything else of
value that could be carried away. Although most surviving tower houses are of bare stone only, originally they were rendered with lime, as depicted in this picture.
